Bradley Barton PTFA Cover

Platinum Jubilee Cookbook

What’s this all about?

In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. To celebrate, and to mark this incredible achievement, Bradley Barton Primary School PTFA are delighted to announce details of the Jubilee Cookbook.  We would love all pupils and school staff, as well as parents and other friends of the school,  to contribute recipes.

The cookbook is not only a great way to mark this fabulous anniversary, it will also help us to raise much needed funds to support the school and it’s pupils, with initiatives such as new outdoor play equipment. It will also be a great opportunity to learn a little bit more about each other, our cultures and our cuisines, as we’re asking everyone to give us a few lines around their personal story with the recipe.

How will it work?

We’ll be accepting recipes from the start of February, right the way through until the 15th July, so you have plenty of time to get everything together. Submissions should include a recipe, in the requested format, and an image. The image can be a photo, a drawing, anything really as long as it’s representative of the recipe.

We’re looking for a good range of tasty recipes, that will go down well with our pupils and families. Our hope is that the cookbook becomes a valuable resource of tried and trusted meals that will be used for years to come.

To that end, we’ve set out seven submission categories which we think should cover most recipe types and help ensure a wide range : Breakfast, Main, Dessert, Snack, Bake, Healthy Packed Lunch and Party Food.

Is this a competition?

Absolutely. Our expert panel of judges will be selecting one child per category to win a personalised Bradley Barton Top Chef apron. One of our lucky category winners will also be crowned overall champion, bagging an extra star prize. Details will be announced shortly.

There’s also a competition to design the front cover for the cookbook, where the winning entry will also win a Bradley Barton Top Chef apron and a star prize, as well as having their artwork featured on the cookbook front cover of course.

We’re really excited to see what our pupils, staff and families come up with, and can’t wait to see the results. And you can submit as many recipes or cover designs as you like!

Final judging will take place after the 20th May, event to be announced.

If you have any queries or questions, please contact the PTFA on email, or on Facebook messenger, and we’ll get right back to you. We’ll also be updating an FAQ with any common questions and answers, which will be available from this page.

Submit a Recipe

So you’ve dusted off the family recipe collection, and you’ve decided you want to contribute something rather special to the cookbook? How do you go about it? It’s easy!

Your recipe will be categorised into one of seven categories, so Breakfast, Main, Dessert, Snack, Bake, Healthy Packed Lunch or Party Food.

You need to make sure you include key information, such as how many it serves, preparation and cooking times, as well as the obvious ingredients and method.

We’re also asking you to submit a few lines about the recipe. This can be anything from a fun fact about an ingredient, or why it’s such a hit with your family. Anything really that will add a little personal touch.

And don’t forget to include your artwork, be that a photo or a drawing!

  • You can submit your recipes and pictures using the easy online form!
  • You can also email them to us, freeform or using this template. Just complete it and email it to us with your digitised picture to ptfa@bradleybarton.com
  • You can also drop your recipes into an envelope, clearly marked ‘Attn PTFA Cookbook’ along with any artwork, and get children to hand them in at school to their teachers.

Submit a Cover Design

What’s a cookbook without a fabulous front cover?

Your cover design needs to be A4 in size, so 210mm x 297mm. It should be bold and exciting, and shout “Cookbook” in an imaginative and engaging way. Your design can be made using illustration, photography, mixed media, or just a mixture of words and graphical elements.

It should contain the wording ‘Bradley Barton Primary School & Nursery’ and ‘Jubilee Cookbook’ in a clear and legible way, or be designed such that we’ll be able to  add that later on. The design may need to be shrunk at a later point, so consider what that will do to any writing

Think about the colours you use, the fonts or style of writing, and how your design will stand out.

We ask that all designs are submitted digitally. You can scan it or photograph it and submit it as detailed below. Please keep hold of, and take good care of, the original, as we’ll need that if your design is chosen.

If you’re unable to scan or photograph the design, please email us and we’ll see what we can do to help.

So what are you waiting for?

We know what an incredibly talented bunch you all are, so we’re incredibly excited to see what everyone comes up. Any issues, any questions please just reach out to us, either via Facebook Messenger or send us an email at ptfa@bradleybarton.com. And if you’d like to get involved in the project, whether that’s helping to sift through the entries, collaborating to design and publish the cookbook, or volunteering for the judging event, we’d love to hear from you.
